I have purchased several of the new modules produced by Wizards of the Coast,including Expedition to Undermountain,Expedition to the Demonweb Pits,and Expedition to castle Ravenloft. Once Altamaic reveals the location of the hidden elevator the PCs waste no time reentering the Tower of War. If Mordenkainen could find the deity trap, so could someone else.
There is a wealth of information inside and plenty of story hooks to run side adventures without deviating to far from the original story goals. The fearless swordsman chased adventure with the enthusiasm of an addict, often venturing into Castle Greyhawk on highly dangerous solo missions, facing every challenge with a wide grin and a clever rejoinder.

A vrock appears suddenly, releasing a cloud of demonic spores. Much to their surprise the statue comes to life, hurling a giant skull at the PCs before attacking with its enormous scythe. It was there that the Mad Archmage imprisoned nine demigods to carve a sliver of divinity for himself nearly a century ago, and it is there that the maddened simulacrum of Iggwilv learns more about her past and dreams godly dreams of her own.
These easter eggs are marvelous if you are a Greyhawk fan, but I imagine they would go right over the head of most non-Greyhawk fans. The blackguard fights to the death as the succubus uses ethereal jaunt to sink into the levels below, though the PCs can find no entrance to go any further down.
For example, both Mordenkainen and Iuz show up to interact with the characters.

Within seconds several clerics of Iuz and their summoned dretches join the fray from a nearby room. The giants quickly close in as the PCs establish a choke point in the epedition to kill the creatures.
In the process they learn a great deal about Zagig’s past and the obsessions that bade him to dig deeper into the earth.
For when Zagig departed Castle Greyhawk, he did so as a living god. It is promptly defeated.
An overview of the city’s districts provides the background you’ll need to make this exciting locale come alive for your players. To detail that much in a volume like this which uses the encounter format present in the most recent DnD adventures would make the book far too thick, plus increase the scope of the adventure beyond what the designers intended.
I bought this for the Ruins of Greyhawk name blindly hoping it would be a wonderful extension expevition the original.

While of little use in running the adventure proper, these sections will be of immense value to those new to the Greyhawk setting. In the morning the PCs return to the temple of Boccob to speak to Altamaic. Included on these labels are some key points of interest to the PCs, including a large tunnel leading into the lower reaches of the Tower of War from the Underdark and a tunnel connecting the Vaults of Creation to the Tower of War dungeons. The gregarious fighter lord thrilled at the audacity of Mordenkainen’s suggestion. This late Greyhawk adventure was set late enough in the timeline to accommodate events from Living Greyhawk.
They then note the three transparent balconies overlooking the room. The fiendish tyrant had vanished from his northern empire in Mordenkainen’s youth, leaving savage humanoid hordes and diabolical societies in the ensuing power vacuum. After selling what they don’t want to keep and purchasing and making their own items, you can expect your players to not find any upgrades for a few levels afterwards! Arrows fill the PCs as combat erupts, the cleric lashing out with powerful spells.
Upon searching for the book they are ambushed by an invisible beholder.

While I feel the authors edpedition the adventure to create more of a Greyhawk sourcebook, I take my hat off to them, even as I note the adventure did suffer for that choice. After Vayne asks the PCs business he quickly deciphers they are there to ruin his greyhhawk. Inside the room they find an elevator and some more stolen goods. Page 1 of 1 Start over Page 1 of 1.
